Early diagnosis and early surgical management | Overview 1
This 25-minute video from our Ultimate Melanoma Masterclass series reviews current thinking relating to the diagnosis and surgical management of melanoma. Around 90% of melanomas are easy to diagnose, but why are so many missed? A/Prof Pascale Guitera discusses the tools that have been proven to aid diagnosis, such as dermoscopy, digital monitoring and total body photography. She also addresses the issues that clinicians face including difficult diagnoses and managing challenging cases. Surgery is the mainstay of management of primary melanoma, and the recommended strategy for excision of primary melanoma has evolved. In this presentation, A/Prof Jonathan Stretch discusses the factors that must be considered when developing a comprehensive and dynamic management strategy for patients taking into account our latest understanding of the disease.
